In a world dominated by 24/7 news cycles and relentless political chatter, my work dives headfirst into the chaos, blending art and science to decode how we make sense of the cultural, social, and political realities served up by the media. Think of it as an experimental jam session between tech, art, and humanity—a multimedia mashup that pushes buttons, literally and metaphorically.
I work across mediums like video, audio, and cutting-edge tech, building interactive installations and devices that are as provocative as they are playful. My art doesn’t hand out answers; it hands you a mirror, forcing you to grapple with the noise—fear, corruption, crime, discrimination—all amplified by global media.
Take my installation See-Saw, for example: a playground staple reimagined as a stark metaphor for human relationships under media influence. Motion detectors track participants’ movements, translating them into a real-time visual commentary on trust and discord. Move smoothly, and you see live images of each other. Move erratically, and you’re bombarded with heavy-hitting footage of protests, blurred speeches, and the dissonance of global chaos. It’s a seesaw, but not the kind you remember from childhood. This one confronts you with how the news shapes and distorts human connections.
Sound is my secret weapon—a visceral force that stirs emotion and challenges perception. As a musician, it’s my bread and butter, but in my art, it’s the amplifier of psychological and emotional realities. For instance, in Rotating Speech, I spent countless hours diving into the world’s most iconic political speeches, studying their rhythms and the way they manipulate media narratives. At a performance during the Gebbles political discussion in The Hague, I unveiled the Political Glove, a sound-manipulating instrument that remixes speeches in real-time, turning rhetoric into raw soundscapes. It’s part performance, part protest, and 100% unapologetic.
Ultimately, my work is about asking questions, not solving problems. It’s about holding a magnifying glass up to the contradictions and collisions in how we see, hear, and react to the world around us. Through art, science, and a little chaos, I aim to make people stop, think, and maybe even feel a little uncomfortable. Because sometimes, discomfort is the birthplace of change.
